Friday, September 11 - Lauretta Allen from "Seams Like History" Podcast - Vintage Quilts and the Women that Created Them
Lauretta is an independent researcher and producer for her own podcast, "Seams Like History." She focuses on one specific historical quilt in each episode and the woman that made it. She discusses the quilting craftmanship of each historical quilt and delves into the history of the artisan that made it. While most historians focus on the quilted artifact, Lauretta has painstakingly researched the historical artisan that made each quilt. She brings to life each and every woman - the woman from an old Dutch merchant family raised in Manhattan during the Early Republic; a woman living during the Civil War with the Shenandoah battles taking place in her backyard; a 19th century prosperous farmer's wife in western Massachusetts; and a North Carolina barnyard quilt maker who lived through four wars and the Great Depression.
Lauretta shared with us some of the beautiful quilts that have been passed down through her family. Some were completed quilts and some were quilts that were started by family members and then lovingly completed by Lauretta.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for socializing time with coffee, tea, and treats. Programs start at 7:00 p.m. featuring local, state or national quilt/fiber artists. Visitors are always welcome ($3.00, national speakers, $5.00). There is ample parking at the church as well as an accessible entrance at the front of the building.
