Our Meetings

Friday, July 10 - St. Louis Honor Flight and Quilts of Honor
Jim Pettit with Greater St. Louis Honor Flight shared with us the history of Honor Flight and the Greater St. Louis chapter of Honor Flight. Jim, a Vietnam War veteran himself, told us how meaningful Honor Flight is for these veterans to receive long overdue recognition some never received. The flights are offered free of charge to American veterans for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to see the Washington D.C. war memorials built to honor our veterans. It's a fast-paced day starting at 5 AM in St. Louis, landing in Washington D.C. to tour the war memorials, and returning late the same day to a heroes' welcome.
Jim shared that quilters can contribute to the veterans' special day by making Honor Flight quilts for the veterans. 2027 will have 5 flights with 90 veterans. The patriotic red, white, and blue Honor Flight quilts are presented to the veterans as a special way to commemorate their day and thank them for their service. Sara Seagrist, incoming Vice President, will be coordinating getting quilt kits distributed to Thimble and Thread members that are interested in quilting for this wonderful organization.
